The 24th “RTL Spendenmarathon” has raised donations totaling €10.8 million. Wolfram Kons announced the record result live on stage in front of 15,000 fans of the Kelly Family, at the sold-out Lanxess Arena in Cologne. The money raised goes to provide effective, lasting support to selected children’s aid projects in Germany and around the world.

“A special thank-you also to the many colleagues who continue to inspire our entire company with their passionate dedication, and sweep us along with their personal commitment to possibly the best of all causes.” Bernd Reichart, CEO Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland

Last week, the channel RTL hosted its 24th “RTL Spendenmarathon” telethon – and set a new record. With a total of €10.8 million, this year’s edition of the longest charity show on German television raised more donations than ever before.

“My heartfelt thanks to our great audience, the numerous celebrity project sponsors, and all partners of children in need for this outstanding result,” said Bernd Reichart, Chairman of the “Stiftung RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e. V.” ( RTL Foundation – We Help Children) Board of Directors and CEO of Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland. “A special thank-you also to the many colleagues who continue to inspire our entire company with their passionate dedication, and sweep us along with their personal commitment to possibly the best of all causes. Our foundation’s work, culminating in the annual ‘RTL Spendenmarathon,’ has been deeply rooted in our company for almost 25 years. It is an integral part of our understanding of social responsibility as a leading media company that reaches many millions of people every day through its channels and platforms.”

Naturally, there was loud and sustained cheering when, at the end of the “RTL Spendenmarathon,” Wolfram Kons announced the record result live in front of 15,000 fans of the Kelly Family at the sold-out Lanxess Arena in Cologne. The Kelly Family and the “RTL-Spendenmarathon” have a longstanding and close relationship. Patricia Kelly and Jonas Myrin composed the song “Sweet Children” especially for the telethon. “This song carried us through the 24th ‘RTL Spendenmarathon’ and gave us a lot of strength for the children who so urgently need our help,” says Wolfram Kons.

The €10,868,729 raised will go to provide effective, lasting support to children in need, in Germany and around the world. All donations from the “RTL-Spendenmarathon” are earmarked for and distributed to selected children’s aid projects by the “Stiftung RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e. V.” foundation. All costs incurred in connection with the longest telethon on German TV and the foundation’s work are borne by RTL. So all the donations are distributed without deductions to the selected children’s aid projects.
