Tonight at 6 p.m., Wolfram Kons will launch the 24th “RTL-Spendenmarathon” telethon. All Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland channels are taking part, and fundraising events will be held inside the broadcaster’s building as well. The donated funds are administered by the “Stiftung RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e.V.” (RTL Foundation – We Help Children), and forwarded to selected children’s aid projects.
This evening, Wolfram Kons will, for the 24th time, launch the RTL-Spendenmarathon, a telethonto raise funds for children who are sick or in need of aid. But not only will money be pouring into the Cologne donations studio from 6 p.m. to fund effective children’said projects in Germany and around the world;all Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland channels are taking part in the charity campaign, and numerous fundraising events, such as the spectacular “24h Challenge” with Joey Kelly, will be held inside the broadcaster’s building itself. “In view of the social responsibility that we assume as a leading media company, our charity efforts are very important to me,” says Bernd Reichart, CEO of the Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland, who was elected as the new Chairman of the “Stiftung RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e. V.” Board of Directorsin January 2019. “We are in the privileged position of being able to reach many millions of people through our channels and platforms. We are fully committed to pooling these strengths in order to effectively help children in need.”
During the longest charity show on German television, Mediengruppe RTL viewers are called on to donate around the clock for an entire day and night. To support children in need, RTL is adjusting its program lineup for a day so that the telethon can be broadcast live from the donations studio once an hour. From there, Wolfram Kons will appeal to viewers to help, welcome celebrities manning the donation phones at the Vodafone Call Center, and interview sponsors about their impressions from their visits to aid projects.
All the sums collected as part of the RTL-Spendenmarathon telethon are administered by the “Stiftung RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e.V.” (RTL Foundation – We Help Children) and forwarded to selected children’s aid projects. There is a celebrity sponsor for each Spendenmarathon project, and they accompany the project from start to finish, and visit the children assisted by the project to get a first-hand impression of the emergency and the opportunities to provide specific aid. The sponsor also appeals for donations during the RTL-Spendenmarathon telethon. They are also on-site again at the end of the project to ensure, on behalf of the donors, that the money actually arrived where it was needed. Last year, the RTL-Spendenmarathon raised a total of €8,604,481 (see BENET report).
