Germany, Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland
From spring 2018, the new free-to-air TV channel Now US will be an exclusive addition to Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland’s channel and video portfolio, TV Now.
This spring will see the launch of the new prime-time free-to-air channel Now US, which will become Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland’s ninth free TV channel, joining RTL Televison, Vox, N-TV, Nitro, RTL Plus, Super RTL, Toggo Plus and RTL II. In addition to airing award-winning series, Now US, which will focus on US fiction, will also premiere some programmes on free-to-air TV. After airing, all programmes will be downloadable from TV Now for up to 30 days. The initial plan is for these broadcasts to be available exclusively via TV Now from 20:15 to 06:00. Dissemination via other partners is under consideration. The offering will be marketed by IP Deutschland. The new channel will be run by Oliver Schablitzki, who is also in charge of Nitro.
Oliver Schablitzki says: “By launching Now US we will aim to offer the best of both worlds: linear, free-to-air broadcasts will reach viewers who still want a curated offer, while our video-on-demand service on TV Now will reach a young audience that wants to access its content anytime, anywhere. While US fiction is becoming less important to established major channels, the genre’s relevance for special-interest channels is growing. Now US will give fans of TV series a new, dedicated offering whose programme schedule caters to changing viewing habits, particularly where series are concerned.”

Jan Wachtel, Chief Digital Content Officer Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland, adds: “Exclusive linear broadcasts of excellent US series and programmes being shown for the first time on free-to-air television represent another step forward in the expansion of our video TV offering TV Now. At the same time, we’re expanding our VOD offering by adding some outstanding international series. Now US will make TV Now even more attractive to our users.”
