RTL Hungary responds to the changed lives of viewers with brand new programmes.
RTL Hungary has changed its springtime schedule in response to its viewers’ changed lives due to the pandemic. Three brand new programmes have been filmed using completely new methods: a unique home-made talent show, a reality show, and a sitcom premiered last weekend on RTL Klub and RTL Most.
A brand new talent show called Made in Karantén (Made in Quarantine) is aired on Saturdays, in which a panel of four celebrities judge home-made videos sent to RTL Klub by viewers. These videos give advice, for example, on how to deal with self-isolation, manage your hobbies, be creative indoors, and realise what you have had no time to do for years. Each episode, the jury picks the best video maker who wins a prize of 1 million HUF. One video – one million, this is Made in Quarantine, the home-made, national talent show only on RTL Klub.
Two brand new programs go out on Sundays. First, an entertaining reality show called Maradj haza magadnak! (Stay home for yourself!) In this series, the audience are given a glimpse into four different celebrities’ family lives during quarantine, showing how they are having fun during the lockdown. Using technology, they keep in touch and help each other organise a virtual birthday party or just accept a funny challenge.
The third new production is a sitcom made by the crew of A mi kis falunk (Our little village), the most watched series in Hungary. The new show is called Segítség! Itthon vagyok! (Help! I’m at home!). Life goes on even if there is a pandemic. The sitcom shows how the corona crisis impacts the life of everyday people. Social distancing means keeping in touch by phone and video chats, so this is how the characters interact. This entertaining sitcom gives a peek into their parallel but somehow interconnected stories. The brand new method of filming Segítség! Itthon vagyok! involves the director and entire crew being online and giving instructions to the actors via video link. Every actor is a cameraman in this series, operating the cameras themselves.
