Closed doors, lying partners and bad drivers

The Netherlands, RTL Nederland

On Tuesday 27 February 2018, Dutch viewers can enjoy poignant stories and guilty pleasures thanks to three new evening programmes broadcast on RTL 4 and RTL 5.

Opening closed doors in Beau Five Days Inside

In this documentary series produced by Vincent TV Productions, which airs on RTL 4 starting on Tuesday 27 February 2018 at 21:30, presenter Beau van Erven Dorens visits six different institutions in the Netherlands that are normally closed to the public. They include a hospice, a high-security psychiatric hospital and a burn centre. Van Erven Dorens spent five days in these institutions to find out what it is like to live and work there, sleeping on a ward or, if necessary, in a sleeping bag in the corner of a room – often under lock and key for his own safety. During the day he is followed by a camera crew. In the evening and at night he films himself.

Beau van Erven Dorens says: “By staying in these institutions for 24 hours a day I feel I have come very close to people. Often so close that sometimes I didn’t know what to do with myself and my emotions. I have followed people in the last days of their lives, I have (…) talked to murderers. I cried and laughed out loud and experienced more than I sometimes liked. In the end, I feel privileged to have been allowed to look behind all those closed doors and to sketch an image of a world that has been shrouded in mystery for most of us.”

Truth and lies exposed in De Leugendetective

The launch of De Leugendetective (The Lie Detective) heralds an evening of guilty pleasure on RTL 5. Besides temptation in Temptation Island and Love Island, the moment of truth has arrived. Research shows that 80 per cent of people lie to their partner and that at least one lie pops up in every ten minutes of conversation. For the new programme De Leugendetective, produced by No Pictures Please, broadcast from Tuesday 27 February at 21:30, lie expert Dan Ribacoff has flown in from America to offer exes, lovers and partners the most honest conversation of their lives. Couples enter into a confrontation that can sometimes be beautiful, but also tough and belligerent.

Driving instructors around the bend

Six well-known Dutch duos compete for the title that nobody wants in De Slechtste Chauffeur Van Nederland VIPS (The Worst Driver In The Netherlands) on RTL 5, from Tuesday 27 February at 20:30.

This season, well-known Dutch celebrities are tested during nerve-racking sessions on the circuit in this SkyHighTV production. They also drive through the narrow streets of Amersfoort – always under the professional direction of presenter John Williams and the watchful eye of the judges, driving instructor Patricia Nijman and Tim and Tom Coronel, who try to make the Netherlands a little safer. From all these tests of different driving skills, it appears that the really big question is how these people ever passed their driving licence in the first place.
