RTL Belgium launches ‘Cyclos du Cœur’ and a new sports adventure in support of Télévie.
As 2020 begins, the ‘défi des cyclos’ challenge, which has been with us since 2008, is merging with ‘Télévie in Ventoux’, another cycling event launched by RTL-TVI presenter Jean-Michel Zecca that first started in 2019 (Backstage reported). And so ‘Cyclos du Cœur’ is born! A community of around 500 cyclists will be pedalling under the new banner, and this year’s sponsor is the famous Belgian racing cyclist Maxime Monfort. The goal remains the same: getting together to raise funds for Télévie, which helps to fund cancer research.
The ‘défi des cyclos’ challenge is being run as part of the ‘Télévie en fête’ event. The principle: everyone starts and finishes together. One big peloton of 200 cyclists raises around 25,000 euros every year in a good cause.
The ‘Télévie in Ventoux’ event raised 60,000 euros alone in 2019. For 2020, the challenge facing presenter Jean-Michel Zecca and the 350 participants riding with him is a big one: on 21 June 2020, they’ll be attacking the slopes of the Galibier, an epic col feared by cyclists, with 18 km of irregular gradients and 2,645 m of height gain. All funds raised by the challenge will go to Télévie.
