Cologne, Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland
To the relief of sports fans globally, live sport has recommenced as lockdown measures have eased. Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland has gained the TV rights to some of the most high-profile football fixtures in the coming months. RTL will broadcast two of the German national team’s international matches this autumn; the first is against Turkey in Cologne on the 7th of October and the second is against the Czech Republic in Leipzig on the 11th of November. These games give head coach, Joachim Löw, the perfect opportunity to fine tune his squad before next summer’s highly anticipated European Championship.
As well as international matches, the group will also broadcast all the preliminary fixtures of the UEFA Europa League through its free-to-air channel Nitro. This allows German viewers to watch matches involving two of their nation’s teams, Bayer Leverkusen and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, with the prospect of fellow Bundesliga rivals, VFL Wolfsburg, joining them in the group stage. The 6 preliminary matches start on the 22nd of October and end on the 10th of December. The group’s Europa League coverage doesn’t stop there; RTL and Nitro will each broadcast one live game each of the knockout stage starting on the 18th of February.
Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland’s commitment to becoming consumers’ portal to live sport is exemplified by their purchase of the exclusive rights to next season’s UEFA Europa League and to the newly established UEFA Europa Conference League. RTL and Nitro are slowly establishing themselves as the home of German Football.
“The UEFA Europa League was a guarantor for great ratings and exciting football nights in the past season. “
