Grimme Award 2020 winners announced: Prince Charming, a successful TV Now original, is one of them!

Germany’s first gay dating show has won in the “Entertainment” category of one of Germany’s best-known TV programme and performance awards. According to the statement from the jury: “Due to the naturalness that a format can only have in its debut season, unexpected moments of real feeling and connection come through again and again in Prince Charming. (…) not just great, emotional TV entertainment, (…) also a new kind of fairy tale.” The award ceremony is being held in Marl on 27 March 2020.

Henning Tewes, co-director of TV Now, said of the award:“Prince Charming is one of our first TV Now originals. The fact that the show has won the hearts of our users and now the Grimme Award is a great accolade and proves that it was high time for the first gay dating show in Germany. A big thank you goes not just to the jury, but to Seapoint and Kirsten Petersen’s editorial team, who have made the format so entertaining and moving at the same time. Winning such an award after just a year as an independent streaming service is really special, and strengthens our resolve to continue with bold and experimental programming. We already have a quite a lot planned.”

Nina Klink, Producer of Seapoint Productions adds: “Whether it’s blokes who love blokes or men who kiss women – love is a universal story that we all want to hear! The whole team is overjoyed about the award! Working with TV Now, we had the chance to provide greater diversity in German entertainment. Hopefully there will be more to come in the future!”

Prince Charming will soon also be on FreeTV: Vox will be airing this successful format on Mondays at 10:15 pm from 20 April 2020. Prince Charming will be looking for Mr Right for Nicolas Puschmann from 20 single men in Greece. With eight episodes and a follow-up reunion show, Prince Charming is a crazy mix of spectacular dates, sizzling moments between singles and a kiss marathon – so it’s not all emotion.
