Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland’s VoD platform, TV Now, and UFA’s digital unit, UFA X, have made it to the final round of the Grimme Prize 2020 with two nominations each. The gay dating show “Prince Charming,” the series “M – eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder,” and the UFA X format “Jäger & Sammler” are among the nominated productions.
TV Now and UFA X are delighted with two nominations each for the 56th edition of the prestigious Grimme Prize. Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland’s video-on-demand platform is in the running in the Entertainment category with Germany’s first gay dating show “Prince Charming.” In TV NOW’s popular reality original, produced by Seapoint, “Prince Charming” Nicolas Puschmann searches for his Mr. Right among 20 single men in Greece. Vox will broadcast the first season on free-to-air TV in spring, and a second season has already been confirmed.
The series “M – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder,” a TV Now original production based on the Fritz Lang classic, is nominated in the Fiction category. Written and directed by David Schalko, the series is set in a present-day Vienna traumatized by brutal child murders. The TV NOW original co-produced by ORF and Superfilm features, among other things, a cast of internationally celebrated actors, including such well-known German names as Verena Altenberger, Sophie Rois, Moritz Bleibtreu, Bela B, and Lars Eidinger.
UFA’s digital unit, UFA X, is shortlisted in the Children & Youth category with its “Jäger & Sammler” format. Its presenter Nemi El-Hassan is also nominated for an award in the “Special” category. The Grimme Prize is one of Germany’s most prestigious awards for TV shows and achievements. It has been presented annually by the Grimme Institut in Marl since 1964. The winners for 2020 will be announced on March 3, and the award ceremony will take place on March 27. (Source BENET)
