The World Cup may be over but Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland is keeping the ball rolling with an expanded offering in ultra-high definition (UHD). In 2018, viewers can look forward to a total of four games in ultra-sharp picture quality.
All matches will be broadcast in high dynamic range (HDR) on RTL UHD, Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland’s linear test channel. As with Formula 1, HD+ is the exclusive distribution partner.

The service will kick off on 5 August 2018 with the friendly match between record champions FC Bayern Munich and Manchester United at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Coverage starts at 20:00. Another UHD highlight, on 28 August, will be the tribute match for former Bayern Munich player Bastian Schweinsteiger. Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland secured the exclusive TV rights to the game between the reigning German champions and Schweinsteiger’s current club, Chicago Fire.
RTL UHD will also screen matches by the German national side, starting with the friendly against Peru on 9 September 2018 at the Wirsol Rhein-Neckar-Arena (home stadium of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim) and followed by Germany versus Russia at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig on 15 November.

Andre Prahl, Head of Programme Distribution at Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland, says: “Football is extremely popular with our viewers, despite Germany’s early exit from the World Cup. We’re therefore delighted that we’ll be able to show this sporting highlight in UHD as well. The fact that we are the first in Germany to combine UHD and HDR underscores once again our ongoing commitment to set new standards.“
